There is a couplet (sher) of Ghalib:
Kya
khoob sauda ishq ka,
Is hath de us hath
le.
Literal translation in English
What a special bargain of love (affection).
Pay by this hand and take from the other
If Ghalib means something to the person, he is
forced to ponder what is special in this couplet.
Under the regime of Indian National Congress, it had
no meaning but in general:
The system of the market
is, first you take the merchandise, then pay for it.
But if you are looking for
love or affection you
have to pay (love) first then only it
will be reciprocated (given).
